Markus Gundermann is indeed a superb violinist. After more than a decade as concertmaster at the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Kuala Lumpur, he returned to Germany in 2012, holding now the position of concertmaster of the 2nd violins at the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Passacaglia (Rosary Sonata XVI ) by Ignaz Franz von Biber and the Chaconne by Johan Sebastian Bach are indeed masterpieces for unaccompanied violin.
Brahm’s Violin Sonata No.2 was written while spending the summer of 1886 in Switzerland. It was a fertile and refreshing time for Brahms. This Sonata, Op.100, is considered the most difficult of his three violin Sonatas to perform.
It is indeed a challenge to express its balance of lyricism and virtuosity. We are looking forward to some exquisite violin music.
