Grand Opening of European Music Cultures II 2025 – Piano Music in European Salons

The European Music Cultures II series opens on Saturday, November 14th, with a celebration of the golden age of the piano salon.

The program begins in Vienna at the salon of Countess Josephine von Brunsvik, one of Beethoven’s most important patrons and confidantes. Beethoven’s Sonata in C major, Op. 2 No. 3 reflects the brilliance and refinement of Viennese classical style at its height.

The second half transports listeners to the salon of Joseph von Witteczek, an admirer of Franz Schubert. Here, Schubert’s Four Impromptus, D. 935 unfold with lyricism and intimacy—the hallmarks of music intended for the salon audience.
